Su Wen Chapter 10:  Dysfunction of the Five Zang Viscera
“The vessels correspond with the heart, which manifest its essence in the facial complexion. However, the heart is controlled by the kidneys. The skin corresponds with the lungs, which manifest their essence in the body hair. However, the lungs are controlled by the heart.  The tendons correspond with the liver, which manifests its essence in the nails and is controlled by the lungs.  The flesh and muscles correspond with the spleen, which manifests it’s essence on the lips and is controlled by the liver. The bones and marrow correspond with the kidneys, which manifest in the head hair and are controlled by the spleen.”

Cosmetic acupuncture, also known as Facial Rejuvenation, is a holistic treatment that has the ability to create a healthier and more youthful looking complexion, naturally. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, facial features reflect organ health--as the qi of the internal organs are strengthened, one’s face will reflect these improvements.  Specific benefits of cosmetic acupuncture include:

  • Improve muscle tone and dermal contraction
  • Increase collagen production
  • Promote skin rejuvenation through increased facial circulation
  • Eliminate and reduce under eye bags
  • Tightens and firms sagging jowls
  • Improving metabolism and reducing puffiness
  • Eliminate fine lines and soften larger creases
  • Improve hormone based skin conditions
  • Helps to lift drooping eyelids and double chins
  • Reduces stress evident in the face
  • Promotes overall health and wellbeing

Each treatment is approximately 90 minutes (Initial visit is 2 hours). A series of 12 treatments is recommended for optimal and long-lasting results. An ideal plan is two treatments a week for the first 3 weeks then once a week for 6 weeks. Treatments are cumulative, meaning each session’s effect will build on the previous one. Changes may be noticeable after the first treatment with sustained improvement around the 7th treatment. A full treatment series is generally not needed although maintenance sessions once a month or quarterly based on your individual needs are recommended. Cosmetic acupuncture cannot be administered if you currently have the following conditions:

  • Problems with bleeding or a tendency to bruise easily
  • High blood pressure (even if controlled with medication)
  • Migraines within the past 6 months
  • Cancer, HIV, Hepatitis, Coronary Artery Disease, Diabetes
  • Seizure disorders and Epilepsy
  • Dizziness
  • Tinnitus
  • Pregnancy
  • Acute cold, flu, or herpes outbreak
  • Laser treatment within the past 21 days
  • Cosmetic fillers or injections within the past 6 months
